Acupuncture for Musicians

Musicians face a specialized set of physical challenges. Years of fine finger and wrist movement can set you up for repetitive stress injuries of the arm, and postural issues which can cause pain and numbness. These can become severe enough to compromise your ability to play, in turn impacting both your livelihood and your emotional well-being. I am happy to report that there is hope!

Acupuncture is extremely useful in treating injuries specific to musicians.

As a musician myself, I understand the physical impact of playing your instrument. I understand that professional musicians are much more similar to professional athletes than most people realize, and that adopting this view can help you to remain at the top of your musical game for years to come. I want you to be able to play your instrument for a lifetime, and I am here to guide you in your wellness and self-care. My main goal is to treat you for any acute injury, and then to teach you skills so that you can prevent any future injury.

Case Study

One patient, a professional drummer, was having shooting pain and numbness in his arm, wrist, and both hands. He had to take 400-600mg of Ibuprofen at a time before practicing drums, and still the pain would cause him to stop playing. His pain was at a 9 out of 10 (10 being the highest), and although he was about to audition for an exciting and potentially very lucrative position in a band, he was unable to practice. He was worried he wouldn’t be able to demonstrate his skill, or even get through the audition.

After one acupuncture treatment, he didn’t need any Ibuprofen. Three days later, after his second acupuncture treatment, he reported, “I could play drums again, and pain free to boot! Yay! Thank you!”

He was able to audition, and got the gig!
